The houses and churches carved into the rocks have made the area a huge sanctuary for Christians fleeing the oppression of the Roman Empire.
• Avanos, Urgup, Goreme, Akvadi, Uchisar and Ortahisar Castles, El Nazar Church, Aynali Church, Pigeon Valley, Derinkuyu, Kaymakli, Ozkonak Underground Cities, Ihlara Valley, Selime Village, Cavusin, Gulludere Valley, Pasabağ-Zelve Anapinar Village are the main places to be seen.
• Traditional Cappadocian houses and pigeonholes carved into the rocks show the originality of the region. These houses are 19. in the XVI century, the slopes were built either of rocks or of cut stone.
